About Afshi

Engagement in community service and volunteering is a core value that has always been dear to Afshi. Through her early work for the Aga Khan Foundation USA right after graduating from the University of Texas at the age of 20, and later as the Chairperson of the Aga Khan Economic Planning Board for the Southwestern United States, Afshi discovered her passion to serve. Afshi has never needed a formal appointment to find ways to make herself useful, and has happily worked in the background, quietly impacting many lives, while also continuing to serve in more formal capacities.

In addition to her community engagements, Afshi has over 20 years of business experience. She is the President of Oil Products Distribution, Ltd., which started in 1996 with just 2 employees before she joined in 1997. The company distributes downstream fuel products to retail stations, commercial and government entities.  She has previously been recognized in the Houston Chronicle for receiving the Houston West Chamber of Commerce “Young Entrepreneur Award” as part of its profile on women in small business making an economic impact.  She was also recognized by the United States Small Business Administration for the “Houston District Entrepreneurship Success Award of the Year.”

Education has always been of paramount importance to Afshi. She has a Bachelors in Business degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Masters in Business degree from the University of Houston where she graduated with Honors. She understands education to be a key to broadening horizons and equipping our future generations with the tools to more effectively engage with and contribute to the world around them. Each generation owes it to the next to build on the work of those who came before us and to ensure greater opportunities for those who come after us. And that begins with providing a sound education as a foundation for the next generation. As a resident of Fort Bend for over 25 years, having attended Clements High School, valuing the role that education has played in her own life, and now as the mother of a young child, the education of children in Fort Bend is of key interest and importance to her.

As a member of the Fort Bend community, Afshi feels that it is incumbent upon all of us to give back in ways that are viable. Thus, she is now running for the Fort Bend ISD Board Trustee Position 3.  As a Trustee she looks forward to building on her experience with the Fort Bend ISD Facilities Steering Committee and also bringing to bear all her other professional and community service experience in the interest of the children of Fort Bend.
